A Skin Care Resolution Made Easy

The New Year is off and running! Perhaps, like many, you’ve made the resolution this year to take better care of yourself--often easier said than done. Making a resolution can be daunting. We get excited at the possibilities of what we can accomplish and then set impossible goals and end up overloading ourselves. If we’re lucky, we’re able to stick with our resolutions until February. It doesn’t have to be this way. The biggest changes start with the smallest actions. Here are a few small resolutions that make a big change in your skin and your day to day:

Maintaining New Year’s resolutions doesn’t have to be impossible. It just takes commitment and a plan based on an honest conversation with ourselves about where we are and what is actually doable for the long-term.

  1. Drink More Water: Really, just MORE. If you’re not a big water drinker don’t start with the recommended 8 glasses per day; you’ll get there. Bring a water bottle with you to work and set a reminder on your phone to take a sip of water once an hour. That’s it. We at ÀTOI are big water drinkers and can attest that the more water you drink, the more water you’ll want to drink. Soon you won’t need a reminder, and you’ll be up to your 8 glasses!
  2. Be Gentle With Your Skin and Yourself: At  ÀTOI we see so many clients who come in thinking they have rosacea when really they’ve just been scrubbing too hard. Your skin may not be behaving the way you want it to, but we can guarantee that rubbing harder will only exacerbate the problem and lead to coarser skin over time. Not only is a gentle approach beneficial for better skin, being kind and tender towards ourselves is something we could all use a little more of.
  3. Build Your Skin Care Routine Slowly: It’s great to want to take better care of your skin, but starting with everything at once can be very overwhelming. If you’re new to skincare, it’s best to start with the basics: Cleansing and Moisturizing. If you can do just those 2 things twice a day, you will set up a much better foundation for maintaining a daily skincare regimen. Once you’ve fallen in love with a basic routine, you can add new serums, masks etc. and really take joy in the self-love time they require.

Maintaining New Year’s resolutions doesn’t have to be impossible. It just takes commitment and a plan based on an honest conversation with ourselves about where we are and what is actually doable for the long-term. At ÀTOI we have helped so many people who didn’t believe they could maintain a skincare regimen.
